My Journey from PHARMACEUTICALS to FOOD……

I was lucky to be raised in Southern California where fresh fruits and vegetables were abundant.  In the backyard of my home I could pick oranges, grapefruit, limes and lemons.  Avocado trees were also available for the picking at a neighbor’s house.  I should have known I was meant to be a raw vegan when, as a teenager, my favorite restaurant was Papa Gus’s Fruit Juice Bar in Leucadia, CA!  Even so my journey to raw veganism didn’t begin until much later in life.

Throughout the early 90′s I went back and forth between a vegetarian and traditional diet for a variety of reasons – health, financial, environmental, etc.  It wasn’t until I began my career in the pharmaceutical industry that I really got a true understanding of the dire state of the American diet and American health in general.

I moved to Raleigh, NC and began working in the drug industry in the late 90′s and over the following 10+ years I found myself growing more and more disillusioned with the medical industry as a whole.  Although I truly believe that most health care providers sincerely want to help people get well there is something definately wrong with the system.  I saw first hand how:

  • clinical data can be conflicting and outcomes may be influenced by sponsorship
  • there is severe lack of nutrition training in medical school
  • our health care system is designed to treat disease instead of prevent disease
  • insurance companies base their patient coverage decisions on what is cheap instead of what is best
  • it is a tit-for-tat industry. No one does anything without expecting something in return (and normally the return is financially related).


The day my life changed was when I heard a doctor on NPR talking about integrative and alternative therapies that were nutritionally based.  Specifically he was addressing common ailments that plague our society. At this point in my life I was suffering from extreme insomnia, fatigue, weight gain, headaches, and fibrous tumors – all of which my general doctor treated with drugs that either didn’t work or left me feeling even worse.  Never did my doctor really try to get to the root of my problems but instead chalked my symptoms up to my age, my job, or stress.  

After hearing the NPR report I promptly sought out an integrative medical doctor who after a thorough examination and lab work found that my body systems were completely out of whack (hormones, thyroid, nutrient deficiencies, heavy metal exposure, candida, etc.).  He quickly revamped my diet to include a lot of green juices, no candida producing foods, organic produce, Vitamin D supplementation, and more.  Within two weeks I was sleeping soundly, full of energy, and felt about 10 years younger.  Additionally, a benign tumor near my spine began to shrink, my skin was glowing, and all of my “age-related” aches and pains began to disappear. I was truly amazed at the difference in my life and immediately started to study anything and everything I could find in regards to raw food.  I studied information and protocols from movement leaders including Dr. Ann Wigmore, Brenda Cobb, David Wolfe, Dr. Gabriel Cousins, and others.

I took this information and began to share it and help others.  My first “victim” was my husband, Jeremy.  Jeremy is an avid athlete who is the picture of health – at least on the outside.  Jeremy (a junk-food junkie) was shocked to find that his cholesterol and blood pressure were creeping above normal.  I convinced him to stay completely raw for 10 days.  He complied and was shock at the end of the 10 days when his cholesterol had dropped 60 points, his blood pressure normalized, and he had energy to spare!  With Jeremy bragging about his great results, more friends wanted us to show them “the way”. We’ve been amazed to see our friends come off meds (including insulin), rediscover the feeling of energy, unveil beautiful glowing skin, and take back control of their health.  ALL WITH RAW AND LIVING FOODS!

Consequently,  I find myself with a passionate desire to promote the best drug in the world – RAW, VEGAN FOOD.
